Important News and Announcements Community Service Award Applications“The Community Service Award application is now available in the Guidance Office. Students with a minimum of 20 hours of community service from the Fall semester are eligible for the Community Service Oustanding Achiever Award. Applications are due to Ms. Bast by Wednesday, February 8th. Summer OpportunitiesColumbia University is offering summer programs in New York, Barcelona, and the Middle East. Programs are available for students grades 9-12. Additional information is available in the guidance office, or go to www.ce.columbia.edu/hs to learn more.
Washington University, St. Louis is offering summer experiences for sophomores and juniors. Programs offered include a 5 week summer scholars program for credit, and 3 week courses in Institutes of Writing, Pre-Medicine, and Photojournalism. Carnegie Mellon has summer pre-college programs from June 30-August 10 in Advanced Placement/Early Admission; Fine Arts: Architecture/Art and Design/Drama/Music; and National High School Game Academy. Go to www.cmu.edu/enrollment/pre-college or call 1-412-268-2082. The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine is currently accepting applications for the 2012 Summer Experience program. The program will take place June 4-July 27. Students must be a current high school junior or senior, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and be available for full time employment during this time. All applications must be submitted electronically by March 5, 2012. Simon Youth FoundationThe Simon Youth Foundation has up to 191 scholarships of up to $1400 each for students who have future potential, who have made significant personal improvements or contributions to their communities. Channon Christian Memorial ScholarshipThe Channon Christian Memorial Scholarship is for a female student at Farragut High School who plans on attending the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in the Fall of 2012. One $5,000 scholarship will be awarded. Applications are available in the guidance office and must be returned to Mrs. Bolinger by Thursday, March 29th.
Alice B. Deeds Memorial ScholarshipThe Knox County PTA offers the $500 Alice B. Deeds Memorial Scholarship to deserving students in Knox County. Final applications must be received by the PTA Scholarship chairman on or before Tuesday, Febrary 14, 2012. Applications are available in the Guidance Office.
Oak Ridge Chapter of the Federally Employed WomenThe Oak Ridge Chapter of the Federally Employed Women will award two $500 scholarships to students in the East Tennessee area who qualify for financial need or academic excellence. Applications must be received by the Federally Employed Women's scholarship ofice by February 7, 2012. See Mrs. Bolinger for applications.
TN Association of Conservation DistrictsThe TN Association of Conservation Districts will award six $600 scholarships to graduating seniors who plan to major in Agriculture and pursue a career in this field. Applicants must be accepted to a Tennessee public university. Additional $500 scholarships are available through the TACD Auxiliary. Applications are available from Mrs. Bolinger. Deadline is Monday, January 30, 2012.
Mini College FairFarragut High School will be hosting a Mini College Fair during 1st and 2nd blcok from 9:00 am-11:00 am on Friday, January 27th in the Commons. Several area colleges will be in attendance to answer questions for prospective students. Colleges that will be represented are Austin Peay State University, Carson Newman College, ETSU, Hiwassee College, King College, Lincoln Memorial University, MTSU, Milligan College, PSTCC, Roane State, Walters State, TN Tech, TN Wesleyan, Tusculum College, University of Memphis, UTC, UTK, Eastern Kentucky, and TSAC.
Summer OpportunityThe UT College of Engineering will host a series of summer enrichment programs entitled, ”Introduction to Engineering” for rising 7th through 12th grade during the summer of 2012. Each program is a one-week residential program designed for underrepresented (women, African-American, Hispanic/Latino American, Native American) participants that have performed at a B or higher level in both math and science. All students are encouraged to apply. Applications are available on the UTK College of Engineering’s website at www.engr.utk.edu/pre_college.html.
